Definitely cool bikes, but I have to wonder about a writer who thinks "breaks" stop a motorcycle.

All good choices but for me, I'd have left out the Royal Enfield, HD, and Indian. And maybe the VFR. And not to sure about the authors actual knowledge of bikes. The CB750 had electric start but that was no innovation; my 1965 CB450 Black Bomber had electric start. And who gives a crap about the sociopath commie moron Hunter S. Thompson...? |

Most of those are great bikes, can't say the same for the ugly tail section/seat on the Evel K oil leak'r Sporty, though. Where is the Scott Flying Squirrel, Brough Superior, Panther 700cc single cylinder side car bike, Curtiss, and more? Not many know that just after 1900, there were at 99 or so American motorcycle manufacturers. Ah, Johnny Depp as Hunter S. Thompson, great performance, but, the question is, was Depp actually acting, or, only acting his normal self? My favorite Depp, Tonto, with the bird on his head, kimosabe, in 'The Lone Ranger'. |

Lots of companies have gone belly-up over the years, in the US but also in the UK, Germany and Japan. Who have even heard of Horex, Rixe, Cabton, Hosk, New Imperial, Norman, to name just a few of them? The more famous that have disappeared include Zündapp, Kreidler, NSU, MZ, DKW, Tohatsu, Bridgestone, Velocette and BSA. it's hard to believe now that DKW and BSA were once the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers- DKW pre-war, BSA post-war.
