There was a packing post on the old site where I posted how I packed my silencers/baffles. I have ridden for some time now on the RZ and deceided to have my pipes Powder coated so I had to take the silencer/baffle apart. This is what they look like. Notice in the upper one there is a small hole or blowout. That is the only hole I saw. I think for the cheap insulation I used they held up really well. If I remember correctly some thought it was an overkill but I will do it the same way again after powder coating.

You did good!

Since this is a baffle packing thread....
FMF 2-Stroke Packing material is a good choice and is widely available at local shops.

+1 in FMF, the other stuff seems to blow out no matter how I pack or wrap it. Seems to gum up a lot too - even on my CR500. Never an issue with the tried and true.

I use regular household insulation for re-packing 2-stroke exhaust.

+2! :) FMF gives a great sound. However as they state, it should be replaced every 30 hrs of operation (gets a coating of hard carbon and as such gets noisy).

Spec 11 and the ID is 3/4" if I remember correctly. OD is 7/8". I can remeasure tomorrow to be sure.

The hardware cloth is cleaver idea. I noramlly just reach for my spool of No.9 bailing wire to hold everything together whilst stuffing them back in the chambers.
