Wouldn't this be a nice tool to have for playing with transfer ports... Have you worked with this yet Paul?

Sorry I lost track of time again which has been a common problem for me these days. Yes, I have tried using it to simulate the flow through an intake manifold. The visuals look good but without doing some comparisons to a flow bench it is hard to say how accurate it is. I have been told that its accuracy is suspect but I don't have enough first hand experience to confirm one way or another. Supposedly one of the best programs for CFD is Ansys Fluent, which I've spent the last few months learning and using. It's very good but it is very hard to use.

I think using CFD to design a cylinder is a good idea to improve the flow coefficient through the transfer ports but I'm not sure if it would be much help in determining the best angles. I think the flow in a real engine is a lot more turbulent which CFD doesn't do well.

I finished the bike too. The entire summer was spent developing the engine. Adding and learning how to get the fuel injection to work took a lot of time. I had a lot of small set backs that ate up time to like, chasing wiring issues, software issues, a bad fuel pump, cracked cases from the kick start coming back, etc. Lots of frustrations but lots learned.

I had to add a counter balancer as the engine shook the chassis to much. I tried changing the crankshaft balance factor first but results were not good. It is a lot better but I couldn't balance it all out due to not having enough room to add counter weight.

I learned through my trials and tribulations that the KX500 engine will never be adaptable for road racing so I've cut my losses and am taking what I learned from it to design a new 400cc single cylinder engine that will work for me and be much better. I've been working on that since October as part of my major project for my final year of university. Most of the major components are designed and by spring time I think I will be close to being ready to start making parts except I need to graduate and get a job first.

I'm also hoping I'll have time this summer to return the H2 to the road.

I'm from northwestern Wisconsin. About 2.5 hours from Brainerd and 1.5 hours from Minneapolis.
