Hi Everyone,

It's time to clean out the garage and I find myself with multiple clutch assemblies and loose parts. Most of them are labeled but I'm trying to understand the best/easiest/surest way to differentiate between them. I've been too busy racing the last few years and have sort of lost touch with the technical details on these bikes. At one point I had both a H1 and H2 but sold the H1 about 5 years ago and just haven't gotten around to cleaning up the miscellaneous spares I accumulated over the years.

I seem to remember that there might be some interchangeability; the only thing I remember for sure is the H2 has a tension band around the basket. Any advice or hints on the best way to identify these is appreciated!

Hi Frank... I wish I could tell you the differences, but I don't know. Maybe the manual gives service limits that could help.

Hi Jim - doing well, thanks and I hope the same can be said for you. Back in Maine full-time, most of my triple riding has been on my
'77 KH400. Been doing some road racing (300 Ninja) on top of drag and land speed stuff (mostly electric still).

I just remembered I have an old H1 crank somewhere: maybe seeing if the clutch basket fits will be a way to confirm which is which.

You're really having some fun, and I'm glad to hear it. I bought a racing suit so I can take my Ninja 250 to a local track, but I haven't actually done it. It's on the list, I guess.

I know the primary gears are different between the H1 and H2, so if you count teeth you should be able to identify that part.

I race my 300 in the Lightweight 250 class at Atlantic Motorsport Park (Schubenacadie, Nova Scotia). The 250's are allowed more mods and the 300 is porkier. Most 250's are quicker than me but it's still a blast.

My daughter and I are going to Deals Gap with the group in 3-1/2 weeks. She'll ride the EX250. It's really an excellent bike for that road, and that area in general. Here's a photo of her enjoying it.

Counting teeth is definitely the easiest/most-definitive way to differentiate between them. Anyone looking for H1 clutches?
