Have you done the solder test to verify squish clearance?

Motometal

I used a feeler gauge....my cylinders were decked already.......exactly .028" on all 3.......ordered .016" head gaskets from Lani (.020 is stock)........ .044" squish clearence, I beleive .040" is what is desired........close enough

Also, they are machined to match the Dome of Wossners, 13 degrees I beleive......different then wiseco or stock

I hadn't thought about the domes...So if one currently has Wiseco and will be switching to Wossners, best to get the heads done with the piston change. I do like the solder check as, with a digital caliper you can also look at the profile of the clearance from the bore to the inside of the squish band. But one has to put a bit of thought into how it's done, as the piston will rock slightly when it compresses the solder if you are checking in the front or rear. Sounds like the different head gaskets could be a tool to fine tune if a person had one cylinder different than the others for deck ht.

I am very curious if squish heads would yield an improvement on my bike (currently has a huge squish clearance) regarding power characteristics. But for now just need to get the beast back together and back on the road.

Put two or three pieces of solder in, spaced around the piston. They'll tend to be equal thickness, but you can check to be sure. If you don't do something to center the heads, they'll probably be a little different.

Use 1 piece right over each end the wrist pins. Use .060" soft solder and a little grease to stick them in place.

There is a relatively new tuner to triples that made a huge deal about the differences in the Wiseco and Wossner domes. It is so minor as to not make any difference. I personally, and many others that have changed over from Wiseco's to Wossners have found absolutely no difference in compression or performance. This includes other roadracers also.

best way to check squish, use two pieces of solder, one piece goes from 6 to 12 oclock and the other goes 9 to 3 oclock. Put some tape across the middle of the cross to stop them moving.
by having 4 pieces touching the top of the piston it wont rock and you get the most acurate measurement.
as for what clearance you use your on your own, mines a secret. Thanks Ralph
