Hi,

does anybody made the same cylinderspecification (porting, highs and so on) from a S2 in a S3 or KH400.
If yes how does it works?

Many thanks and all the best from Germany
Ralf

I think it's in the online factory manual. The 400 is a bit milder porting on the Exhaust from what I remember.

Yes that's what I also know, I only want to ask if anybody tested the S2 porting specs in the 400 engine and how it works?

Regards
Ralf

Isn't what we did to the 400 already about the same? Just a bit more than a blueprint?

You may want to ask on Simon's board, http://kawasakikhregister.myfastforum.org/index.php those guys are focused almost exclusively on the S and small KH bikes. What you describe is a common mod for 400 owners. From measurements I've taken it's 2mm up on the exhaust port, no change on the transfers and I didn't have a 350 piston so I couldn't determine if the intake is different (don't think so...). Anyway, it's supposed to be a very effective and easy way to wake up a 400, even with stock pipes!

with S3 pipes certainly even if they're already more restrictive than S2, with KH 400 pipes could be an other story

KH400 pipes are not more restrictive than S3 pipes JP, just heavier because of the perforated lining (to reduce noise). Someone on the Canadian board switched pipes (S3 to KH) and found no difference in performance.

interesting cauz when the KH 400 arrived on 1976 in France if you wanted to race on Coupe Kawasaki with old S3 or S3A you still could but you must fit KH 400 exhausts. French Kawasaki said they were more restrictive and the races between S3 and KH 400 won't be fair. Just a trick to sell plenty of new exhausts so  :D

Scroll down to see the KH, S3, S2 sections, the S2 has a longer reversion cone but the KH and S3 are the same except for the perforated metal liner, which you can see in the pic. The KH baffle is 1" longer but I doubt that does anything to the performance...

While there maybe differences between the S2 and KH400 stock exhaust designs, nothing could be felt on my butt Dyno...
