I just bought myself a new lathe and I figured modifying a pair of lower fork tubes would be a nice first job.
I also bought a Paolo Tarozzi fork brace that will fit KH500 and a bunch of other Kaws (KZ 650 etc...), but not H1/H2.

There are two problems.

First there is the very short lower fork tubes on H1/H2. The fork brace will not fit without interfering with the wheel and front fender. This was solved a couple of years ago when I switched to an 18'' front wheel and a KZ305 (1981) front fender mounted close to the tire (1/2'' clearance on a new tire).

Secondly there is a difference in diameter on the lower fork tubes where the brace goes. H1/H2 is dia. 60mm while KH500 and later Kaws are dia. 56mm. That's where my new lathe comes to good use. I'm a newbie when it comes to machining so this seemed like a good first job.

did you radius the bottom of the cut or is it a sharp corner? sharp corners like to crack. if you didn't, radius is a bit. would suck if the top of the fork broke off.

I like it. I was thinking of making my own fork brace but after seeing this I may go that route. Did you use the stock h1/h2 rubber dust covers or are they a kh500 part? Listen to what Mark said, a radius would be good there.

Yes, I do have a small radius there.
The rubber dust covers are KH500.
