Hi

I have started to reserarch the possibility of adding a rear disk brake to my H1E. I want to stay with spoked wheels so I'm thinking of using a KZ750 (twin) rear hub.
The rim will be a Takasago Excel 3.50 x 18 (WM6).



Does anybody here have any experience with this one, or perhaps know other hub alternatives (40 spoke)?

Not really answering your question but something I wanted to pass along...
I will try to get a pic of the rear disk setup I saw on Scott Turner's CB400F race bike, it is SO simple and clean! He used a disk and caliper from a CB125 front wheel, anybody remember?... It was NOT a hydraulic brake, but a cable! It's plenty strong for a rear even on a "heavy" bike like our triples. Get creative with a pedal setup and you have a trouble free rear brake that WORKS! Even on an H1!

Don't forget bicycle disc brakes. With a good front brake, you don't need much back brake.

John removes the pedal, rod, linkage, shoes and totally guts the rear hub to save weight!

Probably only a 36 spoke hub/rim tho Bill. Not sure how important a matching 40 spoke setup is to PK?

I wasn't suggesting using the whole wheel or even hub from the CB125, only mount the disk to his hub of choice, or at least using the cable operated caliper. It will be interesting to see what Chuckie is bringing to ride, maybe we'll get to see those FAT Harry Barlow pipes that have been hanging on the rafters for years finally on a bike!

Here's what I have collected so far for my H1 rear end project:

- H2 swing arm from Mr. Ken Brumm
- Rear hub with cush drive from KZ750 (1978).
- Rear caliper and bracket from Kawasaki EX650 (06 - 08).
- Rear brake rotor from Triumph Daytona 955 (cheap aftermarket).
- Rear axle from late Kawasaki H2.

I plan to use a 4.25 x 18" (WM9) EXCEL rim and stainless steel spokes.
An adapter will be fabricated for fitting the Triumph adapter to the hub. The caliper bracket on the picture will not be used, instead I will make a new one which is more suitable for this swing arm. It will use the "tongue and groove" type of locking to prevent rotation so that I wont have to use the torsion arm that comes with the swing arm.
