How are the ceramics compared to regular crank bearings in terms of reliabilty?

I can't really comment on ceramic ball bearings used on a crank but ceramic angular contact bearings are widely used in high speed machine tool spindles without issues... It would be hard to find an application that would be more demanding then then a boring mill pounding away day and night...
As with everything else though, name brands you trust only

unfortunatly i have had bad experiance with ceramic bearings in high speed milling machines, thet dont take sudden impacts well at all.
$27k later and a new spindle complete with brgs, and we were good to go again, 4 months later same thing .sent the mazak m/c back.
but its not quite the same on a crank i would think the load would be delivered in a smoother fashion.
dont know if this helps but its my experiance.

I'd never argue that they are as forgiving as steel balls but if they are used within their designed capabilities, they will last longer then steel bearings. They are harder, run cooler, less resistance and can run faster then steel but are brittle...
For triples, unless you plan to break a 1/4 Mille or land speed record, and you can live without reving it to 12k, might better just stick with the cheap name brand steel units IMO

i have pushed a bike that has ceramic wheel bearings, you would not believe how much more free they are compared to std bearings.

They are off a 2007 Yz450. So it is the just one over-sized rotor.. We had to make some spacers for the caliper but it wasn't too bad.. It is a brembo rotor PN 70.1035A.. I just googled it but didn't find anything,,,, weird??
What wheel are you running? Might be easiest to find the rotors that will fit the wheel and work on spacing the caliper... I am no expert :)... I am sure some of these key board jockeys on this site could give you some good advise...
