 Post subject: H2 15 plate conversion

What was done by Denco to the clutch assembly to get the 15 plate conversion???

Looking at their 15 plate clutch conversion, the assembly shows 8 friction and
7 steel plates.

Correct me if im wrong:
- They added one friction and one steel plate
- Cut down the inside hub - see pic
- Used thinner steel plates
- Friction plates are original - no change

Im looking at buying new plates but not sure if stock steel plates will work i.e. same thickness?

Use the 500 steels, they are thinner.

I would highly recommend using the RedLine Racing 15 plate clutch kit. You will get longer springs and screws and some alloy inserts. You will need these to overcome the springs binding up due to the increased travel. If you don't, your clutch will drag and you won't be able to adjust it out. It really does work beautifully!

The kits are cool, but again, I never had a binding problem......

I had a terrible binding problem with my H2. It drove me nuts until I fitted one of Larry's kits. :)

I had a conversion done way back, springs, extra plates, hub work…see photo above. Im trying to refresh my memory. I was reviewing Redline last night using them as a guide to what Denco might have done. Redline's 15 plate clutch, im sure, fits nicely to their mods on the hub assembly. My concern was what 15 plates fit nicely to Denco's mods on the clutch assembly. Im sure all I need is the H1 steel and the regular fiber plates.

Now I have a need to know question :think: . The behind clutch hub thurst washer, did Denco give me a thinner one as part of their mods?? The only way I know to find out is to measure mine, .70mm, against a stock one :problem: .

They did it the hard way. take .030" off the nub on the back of the inner hub.
I did nothing to the outer.

I got the washer from Redline but kept mu stock springs, etc. They sell longer screws and springs too? Mine seems fine

Yes, I believe that's what he calls them.

I always took 0.030" off the back of the inner hub like John and retained the original washer.

The springs you gewith Larry's kit are quite a bit longer but have also had a lot of time spent on them finding the correct specs to ensure that the clutch is strong enough to work without slipping and soft enough that it's nice to operate with a few fingers.

Yes, you do have to use the 500 steels that are 1.5mm thk and lose the H2 steels that are 2.0mm thk.
