I'm struggling to tune a couple of niggling inconsistencies out of my original stock carbs, so I'm now thinking of fitting up a set of new 30mm Mikunis (they're not expensive, parts are available and being brand new they should eliminate at least one probable cause of my issues). The drama is, the new 30mm bodies now come with a 58mm inlet spigot instead of 43mm for the stock carbs. This makes it impossible to fit up to the stock inlet manifold. I could fit pods - thinking of Ramair to do that job. Or... has anyone else been down this path and made a set of newer carbs fit in place of the stock ones? Any info relating to this greatly appreciated. |

The inlet spigot is the cylinder side, and there is only a few mm. difference for larger carbs, I guess you mean the air horn, or air-filter side. Fit uni-filters, definitely the way to go. If you are getting new carbs, think 34 mm, or at least 32 mm, the stock carbs are pretty small really. Then you will have to tune them, but plenty of good advice around for that! Bigger carbs won't affect low speed running. |

Will 32mm carbs work ok with stock pipes though? |

Yes, it wouldn't make any difference, as I said, the stock 30 mm's are marginally too small. 34's would be my choice, but 32's would be fine on a stock bike, it is free performance in your situation. |
