Wondering what way to go for small rake (castor angle) and trail improvements on my H2B. On my XV750 to go from cruiser with too much rake to cafe that handled MUCH better, I lowered the front and raised the rear, steepening the fork angle. Somehow think the H2 has too much rake now, but it does have steering dampers that seem to indicate it has problems with too little rake. Thoughts?

Longer rear shocks, raise the fork tubes slightly in the triple clamps, and I don't know if an early (shorter) H2 swing-arm will work in a H2-B, some guys have done the reverse, though I am not sure why! A lot of people use an 18" rim on the front too, with good results. Careful set up is the key to good H2 handling. (standard rake is something like 27.5 degrees, you can afford to bring it in a little....)

There is a cool rake trail calculator on Dale resource site listed at the top of the board. Rod is correct A 18" front makes a difference and longer shocks. Check what your actual rakes is and use the calculator to get 100 mm of trail, that works really well on the H models.

What is the suggested 18" front rim to use, to lace up to the stock hub?

If you're asking what's the best one, I'd say get an Excel. I built a wheel with one and it almost trued itself. Check the recommended width for the tire you want to use. 100/90 is a decent choice.

Rake or 18 inch wheel

Disc, the ratios of diameters are closer. I also use a 100 front with a 2.15 rim width.

The wheel being an 18 inch gives the caliper a little more stopping power over the same setup on a 19 inch wheel :?:
