Im with you "old school" guys. I love the fact you can get solid performance out of these old bikes with just a few minor things. Both of my riders (except for the EX500 caliper on the H1) are built from parts a guy could have ordered out of a catalogue 35-40 years ago. They are a blast to ride.

Thats not to say I wouldn't love to have/build a Special along the lines of Ralfs ZX400/H2 or Cabbies Gixxer framed bike.... and then steal the case reed engine out of Henry's bike when he's not looking.

It sure would be cool to be able to afford to have a lightly modified H2 and also a Hyper modded bike like Cabbie's! Best of both worlds... :D

Well, a very light 500/S2 that's breathed on would be more fun to me....... :wtf: And one like Cabbies.... welll, not my style, but super cool!

"Life" got in the way Jim...
Pretty sure you know what thats like..

I think that would have been a cool and unique bike in the end. Id still love to see someone do something similar with the under-mount shock and stressed member engine. That Buell did handle amazing, and a breathed-on H2 engine would have been a riot in that chassis.

Agree with all of the above; was hoping that it was still a winter project for you

I would love to see a Ducati trellis frame, single sided swinger, and Buell front end with an H series motor. That would be badass!!!

I only blow up two strokes  but if anyone wants measurements off of my Duc I'm happy to help. The H1 is sitting next to it and I can tell you it doesn't look like an easy swap.

I just modded the pistons, (finally) in my H1 w/reeds. the cages are buried pretty deep in the intakes... the tips of the reeds are actually closer to the piston than on an RD(im running some really funky banshee cages from chariot performance) and PJ34's. low end trhottle response is crisp as a potato chip. between the new cages, finally cutting the holes in the pistons, and some fine tuning its pretty nuts down low, all the way up to indicated 9500. Trust me, its def still the feel of a triple. it can be done w/big cages, etc, but theres LOTS of tradeoffs. I have to say though, this one hasnt blown up yet. and it aint from lack of trying....

after todays final tweaking it was pulling about 300 foot 25-30 degree 2nd gear wheelies on the road (stock H1 gearing). and riding position is basically like doing a hand-stand on the tank... not ergo friendly at all.

is it worth it? eh. depends what you want. Johns reeds work great. (THESE ARE NOT JOHNS REEDS BTW, HE DID HELP W/THE HEADS THOUGH) BUT, if you want retarted drag-bike top end power, then might have to go another route as mentioned.

(and before somebody says it.. yes, i did the other 2 pistons... )
