Sometimes things are more about the build for me, to see if what I think I can accomplish in my head can actually come to life in the real world and do it within the parameters that I set. You should understand this John, the fiberglass tank that you run on your bike is not far superior to a stock steel tank. Some will say that the time and effort spent on it was not worth it. In the end though it was something "different".

Definitely the right frame of mind!

the reason dry clutches are good is the lack of drag. BMW boxers, pretty sure moto-guzzis have them also. my Moto-Morini has a dry clutch. behind the cover.. its quiet as hell. take it off and it sounds like a 748 ducati. I have to say.. its really good for riding. doent seem to fade at all. Id def do it on the frog if i wasnt inundated by other projects.

Actually my tank saved 1.5lbs, and it was an item I sell, so yes, it is more than something different..... ;)

And it's ok to do stuff to just "do".

Lets see, "dry clutches are bad". OK, well, these bikes have had them all along, with no adverse problems past any wet clutch setup. Hardley-Driveable, Moto-Guzzi, BMW, Triumph, BSA, Norton, most other British bikes, Bridgestone, Jawa, CZ, all sorts of early motorcycles made all over the world, specialty bikes such as factory racers, limited editions as well, all make significant torque, which calls for the highest quality clutch...all dry. In the case of some of those things, the bikes weighed significantly more than a later model dry clutch special, like the GSX-R, and they didn't have significant problems.

Then, there are cars, trucks of all sorts, race cars, go karts, trains, boats, all with some form or another of dry clutches. Cars weigh tons as well. And, they slip when oils get on the facings of the plates, from things like leaky rear main seals, etc.

Yep, them dry clutches are just for show, all of 'em.

I never said dry clutches were "bad" Dave. I did say they are not "superior" as you stated. they have the "cool" factor, but I personally don't see any advantage in doing a conversion on a triple. Just my 2 cents.....

I can't seem to find the foto's again

but an Italian guy, Camera, built a few dry clutch setups.

the advantage of a dry clutch is also less oil (=weight) and the engine will rev quicker.

Well, "PERSONALLY", I KNOW THEY ARE BETTER, all the way around, proven fact. This isn't just an "OPINION", it is just what it is, fact.

oxford, when you get ready for that insanity, get in touch with Nev, me, they guys in Europe, and we can convince you that you are completely nutzo, and you can then get to building one.

I will let the factories know that their 200 plus hp liter bikes have inferior wet clutches Dave......

You do just that, they'll be happy to be corrected for using inferior dry clutches for their ultra performance race bikes, instead of the "superior" wet clutches. Maybe worth the effort to go tell the car and truck guys, and everyone else in the universe that their dry clutches are just plain wrong, junk, trash, don't work.

I'm happy, and overjoyed we have that kind of knowledge here, over decades of hands on experience.
