Chong,

I just caught up with this thread. Great workmanship and I agree with others - the $300 was well spent. Keep it coming.

Who's got some S1 carbs laying around that you'd like to sell? It seems the pilot jets are hopelessly stuck in mine. I tried soaking the carbs for 24 hours in Berryman's carb cleaner to loosen up the corrosion but no dice. The screwdriver slots are really screwed up too. I managed to save one of the carbs though. Also, take a look at this. Look at this white stuff that's in the float bowls. This stuff won't come off with any chemical known to man (at least any chemical in my garage). I've resorted to scraping it off, but it's pretty tedious. Any tips on removing this stuff?

Image
White chalky substance in float bowl. Also, I didn't know carbs could rust!

Image
Float with mystery substance. It looks like somebody was trying to smuggle cocaine in the float bowls.

Image
Yikes! I've had floats before that I've submerged in water to find a pin hole size leak, but this one takes the prize. I think I'll keep it as a conversation piece.

I think 350 carbs are easier to find across the pond, stick a set of them on, it will give you a boost too

Ok. I managed to salvage 2 of the carbs. The last carb is soaking in Liquid Wrench to help to loosen up the choke plunger and pilot jet. I put them on the bike temporarily (better than letting them sit on the bench) to see how they look:

Here's the bike's progress so far. Right shock off bike. I'm going to have the shocks rebuilt. New fork tubes by http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/ You have to "transplant" (or buy new ones - good luck with that!) the lower fork guides from the old forks onto the new ones. They supply the short metal pegs and the proper size drill bit and directions to install them on the new forks.

Image
The chambers are from http://japan.webike.net/products/9642015.html. I'm worried about the left one. It looks like it's hanging too low for "knee scraping" ground clearance. The shocks are used Works Performance units bought off ebay.

Image
Another shot. All of the engine covers are loosely fitted until I get them polished.

Cockpit

Image
Upper triple clamp and clipons. I removed unnecessary "protrusions" and polished. No going back to high handlebars now!

Image
Integrated the front signals and after market headlight bucket. http://www.speedmotoco.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=hlbdf.

Image
New coils. For the ignition I decided to go with the Powerdynamo system. http://www.powerdynamo.biz/eng/systems/7333/7333main.htm. I used their ignition on a 1963 BMW R60/2 I restored and loved it. It's a high ticket item but I think it's well worth it.

Image
Tabs I welded on for the rear turn signals. Bought them from http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-electronic-lighting-parts-mini-rectangle-aluminum-amber-turn-signals-blinkers-25-8301.html

Image
Battery box with a genuine Kawasaki oil tank strap! Powerdynamo regulator.

Image
Rearsets by http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-Rearsets/Categories. I cut and ground off the stock peg mounts (gasp!), then drilled and tapped them for the new rearsets. Blenty of "meat" for the rearsets large mounting bolt. They are now adjustable like the stock pegs.

Georgous work! 2 cents.. I used those same pegs on a different build and if it's similar , you'll have a tricky time getting a kickstarter to clear that peg. I'm using a KZ650 kicker and it juuust gets past it. Or you can spring for the folding peg. Or you can heat and bent the stock kicker.

I didn't need to heat my H2's lever to bend it. Its steel isn't very hard.
