Well then that is one easy decision, Ill be saving for reeds and some carbs, and work on pipe modifications in the mean time. There is so much to work out it helps to have a plan to deviate from!
It took me a year of staring at it in the garage to get the courage to dive into it, not knowing where to start, but as I move forward I now see you put parts on, take parts off, put other parts on take them off. Little by little it may work its way on to the road! Looking at some of the builds here really helps with ideas and encouragement.

Scrambler73 your patience and attention to detail and willingness to not compromise and step back and get it right when modifying is impressive.
I would love to see some of your carpentry work, being a carpenter myself for 26yrs and being in the midwest, we here in the Milwaukee area always look to the Minneapolis area for trends in design and in doing that see some of the finest carpentry in the country. I dont know much about message boards (or any other electronic communication/community) so this my be inappropriate to mention on this post. If it is just let me know.

No, not to take away from your abilities, but Cody is one of the best carpenters you'll come across, and it's not inappropriate to discuss that. :D

I'm curious as to how the reeds changed the power curve, never having had this motor running, or any streetable 2 stroke for that matter, and knowing full well that top end motors are a PITA, did it reduce the top allot. My experience with my GS (4 stroke) once I changed to cams with less duration and epoxied the ports to speed up intake did lose a noticeable amount on top but the improvement in power delivery, and the great throttle response was worth it, far better for street use. If the dyno is any indication of truth I lost 6hp off the top but gained a 1000 rpm wider power band. My butt says its true, wondering if there would be any similarity.

On the original smaller design back in 95-96 It showed 1 hp difference up top. I haven't dynoed the newer design. I haven't heard anyone reporting any kind of top end power reduction after the conversion.

I put a set of John's reeds in my H2 last spring. At the same time, I increased exhaust and transfer duration to approximately H2R specs, from the typical "Stage I" porting I had before. The high-end HP was noticeably improved, as measured by my butt-dyno and wheelie dyno, and the bottom end torque was improved so much that 1st gear seemed silly, and I went to 16/44 sprockets. Now cruising at 65-70 mph is much more pleasant.

Well Im still staring at it! I need to take the plunge and start hacken' and put my best carpentry skills into it, If I pretend its wood, then I wouldn't be so nervous. I know I can make wood do whatever I need to, I'm guess'n the only difference is material , cut it, fit it, have it welded. One of the problems is every time I start on one thing I find something else that is going to need attention to get this project on the road and Im like a squirrel, find a nut run with it a while, find another, drop the first one, and so on :? I have even started thinking about the frame geometry, my cousin who started this project worked at Buell and had told me he was trying to hit some rake, trail, and length they thought would be good but I have no idea what it was or if he accomplished it. More working less thinking might help, one thing at a time, unless of course I build myself into a corner!

Seems like most here are getting ready for Deals Gap. Someday maybe I'll find my way there. Hope for good weather and good times for all.

I find a well thought plan is usually a good one but, sometimes it is better to just start doing than over thinking something. If you fail, learn from your mistake and move on.
