There is quite a community out there for these bikes..

Does anyone know if there is anyway to lighten up the motor? Any tricks of things to cut down / remove / replace / ect..?

I think it's cool, I spoke to the guy in san Diego and when he said he couldn't build one that would run on pump gas I decided to keep looking. I'm sorry to hear about that. I've been there brother in the car world so you are not alone. Nice work thus far.

Sawracer,,,, If you are ever up this way there is a great event every 3rd Sunday in Venice on Abbot Kinney.. Everyone meets up at 10am for a ride out at 11am up the pch to neptunes net for some lunch and back.. A lot of times I just go to check out the vintage bikes and make a right on sunset and head home.. Lots of cools cafe races ( and just all bike in general)..
They welcome me with open arms on vintage harleys so that is saying something right there :thumbup:

Soon I will be Rockin the H2 once it is done!!!!!

"Third Sunday” Vintage Ride (NORTH)
This ride is open to all bikes (vintage and custom preferred). We meet at 1625 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice, 90291 (cross street is Venice Blvd.). 10AM meet-up, 11AM depart.
We cruise up the PCH, grub on seafood and beers at Neptunes, and then cruise back.

When you peel the paint off these frames you really see that the welding in the 70s was not and art or a science..
Amazing the amount of rust under the paint where the paint started to decay.... Not bad.. Especially under the gas tank..

The acid bath got it all off,,, but I like these pics best..

Stripped down... Time to build it back up..!!

Well, you could drill a zillion holes in it....

All the steel tube frame s were robot MIG welded. Kawasaki was one of the very first to design and build these welders, called the "Uni-Mate". Believe me, for the time period our frames and other steel items were welded in, this was 'state of the art' back then.

70's car frames are the same way, compared to traditional welds they look like hell but the penetration is there and they hold up surprisingly well. I will check out that meet, I will have to do it on my vespa or enduro. The RD and H2 are in project purgatory
