Can anyone tell me what is the best way to tighten the primary drive gear on an H2? How can enough torque be applied to the nut withouth the crankshaft spinning like a top?

Thanks...

folded up paper towel in the teeth with the clutch basket. No cloth.

I use an old transmission gear from a Yamaha YDS3, with half the teeth gone. Seems to fit just about every primary gear set I have ever encountered, just set it into the clutch and crank primary gears, and torque away, loosen up. I figure just about any old trans gear would be OK to use, as long as it will mesh with the teeth of the gears you are using.

If you use anything like a paper towel, aluminum, be sure to get all of the compressed residue out of the gear. We used to get a lot of bikes in that had primary gear knock, and when we investigated, it always ended up being something that was wedged into the gears for tightening when the engine was worked on/rebuilt. I don't know if the service bulletin is on Dale's site, but there is one on this.
