Post subject:  NewB with H1B!

Gurus,

Just acquired a 1971 H1 and looking to restore it. I also have a 1975 GT750 water buffalo that i tinker with and is my weekend ride.
Initial questions:
1) Does the 1971 model have an air box silencer (snorkel)? My bike does not have anything over the chrome air box that contains the air filter.
2) The bike has a broken front brake lever perch? Any ideas on a replacement?
3) What size (length) rear foot pegs are original to the bike? Any suggestions on replacement?
4) Are the rear tail light bulbs easy to get?
5) What battery do you recommend? It needs a new one.
6) It needs a new seat cover. Any recommendations? What is the correct seat cover for a 1971? Smooth? Piping color?
7) It needs a bolt for the side covers?

Cheers,
Buck

no snorkel, and you can get all that stuff at www.diablocycle.com or www.ebay.com. get a sealed battery. 1971 seatcover is smooth with black piping.. you have a 72 seat\cover on there now.

Thanks! Did not know that the 1971 H1A did not have the snorkel/air box silencer. I feel better knowing that it wasn't missing any parts after all! :P

"Correct" perches are specific to 69-71 models and have a sharp inner angle where the matching lever mates to the perch. Currently there are no repros made, so if you want correctness, you'll have to keep searching. You can read this recent thread from this very board: http://kawi2strokes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7081&p=71144&hilit=perch#p71144

The 71 should be identical to the 69 and 70. You can get new repro rubbers for them too, but I've added a link to some NOS: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Kawasaki-H1500-H1-500-KH500-KH-Triple-K299A-rear-foot-pegs-/230998834629

7) It needs a bolt for the side covers?

Will I need to replace the foam also or will just the smooth seat cover do on the same seat?
Also is the rear footrest bar length 62mm or 78 mm for this model?
Thanks.

As far as I know, the seat foam is the same for 69-72, but you may have to change the foam IF the pleated 72 cover has created matching indentations in the top of the foam itself, which may show through the smooth seat cover.

If nobody chimes in, I will see if I have a foot peg handy to measure.

Sorry, I believe my pegs are buried in the trunk of my Mustang, which is buried under parts, and boxes filled with more parts. :( It's a mess in my garage!
