Guys,

Looking for some tips. I got the engine apart at a friend's and the middle cylinder has scoring and it looks like it'll need a new top end. Any suggestions on first bore kit?
Also should I go for a bottom end rebuild at this time as well? Anyone know any machinists for this job near Nashville? How much are we looking at? Thanks!

Is my eyes deceiving me or is that right cylinder full of oil? :eh:

I believe the concensus will say wossner, some use wiseco, and yes to do a full teardown to know what you got. It's hard to say whats going on behind the curtain and it would be a shame to start it up and find out the crank or tranny has an issue. I'll leave that option up to you.

Since you have a 500, you might have luck trying to get your cylinders bored at a local machine shop. There are a few on the board that offer boring I believe as well. I'm sure someone will pipe in.

Unfortunately I think it is some kind of rust remover that someone poured in there to clean up the inside! posting.php?mode=reply&f=14&t=7132#
I assume you mean Wossner pistons & rings. There is a local shop that does reboring around here for $50 per cylinder. They have been in business 25 plus years. If it is a pretty basic operation I could use them. What is the best source for the piston kit value wise?
As far as the crankshaft is concerned someone quoted $90 per rod and $120 for the six bearings. Is this the best option or should I send it to an expert? How much total labor is involved beside the crankshaft rebuild which I guess is approx. $350 for a rebuild with shipping?
Just looking for a good ballpark so I am somewhat knowledgable. Is it worth a shot to do just the top end and wait on the bottom end later? Thanks!

I got her running with new pistons and rings on one cylinder and it ran on all 3 for a little while (a few minutes). Then one cylinder stopped firing (no spark to it from spark plug, replaced with new spark plug and still not firing on that one cylinder). I'm thinking electric issue. Any leads? Thanks  .
