Ok, I'm using H2 carbs on the Hybrid.. Clearance is TIGHT, but I think I can make it work!

Just wondering if any of you have an idea on where to start jetting wise with H2 30mm carbs on a stock port H1 with chambers?

Needle jets
jet needles
mains
pilots

This is a stock port H1 engine with chambers..

The only thing I know is that I'll be using 2.5 cutaways... cuz that is the only size I have!

Thanks guys!

Scrambler,
Have a look at 12dot's H1 (has its carbs bored to 30mm). His engine prep looks to be the same as yours (item #8):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... hUXc#gid=0

It looks to be close to standard H1A brass. Maybe rob your H1 VM28 needles/needle jets for your 30s and up the pilots and mains as per 12's spec?

PS, If you need to lean your cutaway (modify them for a leaner 3.0 CA etc) I recently confirmed each full unit of CA = .0625in. IE If you place your present 2.5 slide on a flat surface you will find a .156in. (2.5 x .0625) drill shank just begins to fit under the slide lip. (Mikuni based their measurements on the English Amal carb).

I can't tell you what jets to use but they will be larger than stock H2 jetting for the same setup.

Cody,
Have another look at the jetting link I posted. There IS a fellow running VM30s on an H1 (Item 16). It is posted he is using the 2.5 CA slides too...

in theory, which needle jet/jet needle combo do you think would work better (pull better at low rpms)?

Do I want a TALLER choke or a shorter unit like what is found on the early H1's?

This is on a stock 74 H1, but cutting the choke from the stock 8mm down to 5mm helped eliminate a midrange (4000-5000) flat spot I had been fighting with forever...

If I'm not mistaken, the taller the shroud, the richer the mixture.

Sometimes ago, I had Standard Cylinders, H2 Carbs, and Leo Pipes for standard engine.
I ran, 35 pilots, air screw one turn, main 107,5, needle in 5th position, needle 5EJ15 with 2.5 cutaway.
On the dyno it has 58,5 HP on the rearwheel.

All the best from Germany
Ralf
