Post subject:  Crankcase oil scavenger valves

Hi all..

Got a bit of a problem with the H2B, left hand of the 3 valves on the bottom of the crankcase just wont stop leaking.

I saw in another thread that a guy with a 75 H1 was having the same problem and the advice was to block it off as its not needed (Just there for emissions yes?)

Would the same advice apply to the H2B? Or do I eed to go looking for more gaskets.. :problem:

Would I be ok filling the holes with a bit of chemical metal or similar?

Thankinya!

Yes... seal it off however is most convenient.

I don't have the valves on my H2... are they any insurance against hydrolock?

Thread it and put a allen plug in it so you can drain them early in the season if any oil has got in there. They are useless unless your stock and in a show and some Englishman comes by to judge it. :P

Does anyone know why those valves were added in the first place?
If they are for emissions, how in the heck are they supose to work?

The link is no longer functional.
I was thinking of opening these up on my engine in order to flush out the crankcase before I reassemble it. My gasket kit doesn't have new gaskets for it so since they don't leak I am hesitant to open them up??? Can I do this and then block off these on my H1?
I did find this tho.

The valves are only on later H2, and they were designed to use vacuum/pressure to scavenge excess oils in the crankcase bottoms into the tansfer ports for cleaner operation, for EMISSIONS reduction. YES, emissions.

I usually simply make one gasket, full, no holes, and use Three Bond sealer, and the valve cap, done. NOT wise to tap assembled engine ports for this, but, bottom case removed, go head on, and also use the gasket/cap.
