Friend called and said his new engine build won't run. We have both been racing for over 40 years and I have never seen one of these engines that wouldn't start. Starts when fuel is sprayed in carbs, but as soon as fuel burns off, engine will only idle. Try to throttle up, engine dies. The only new part, from when the engine was last raced, is a new crank! checked index, found to be right. good spark, fresh fuel, timing right on. Bike went from 8:50s to not starting, after instaling new crank. Any Ideas. Thanks |

Maybe check the float levels and at the same time, make sure you have good fuel flow out of the tank. |

floats are good and electric pump. How would this thing act if the seals are bad? |

There was another member who had a similar issue with a drag motor. It turned out to be bad lab seals on the rebuild. He did the crank again with rubber seals and....viola. |

If they are similar to stock carburetors, I have had this problem and it turned out to be when I slipped the throttle slides in the top of the carbs one of the cables slipped out of place to where when twisting the throttle only 2 slides went up. |

MAKE SURE plug wires didnt get crossed. when it starts does it sound crap? if 1 & 3 are swapped it will fire but backfire and not 'run' for more than a second or 2. seen that one happen a lot. |

hehe. forgot about that bill. had to deal with it again only a week ago on phils 'new' 74. I swear 30% of the bikes i have run across were parked for that reason after a rebuild. after we got phils bike firing right it was quiet as a sewing machine. crazy |
