Post subject:  exhaust design question

Since I put the H1 engine on the suzuki frame I had to modify all 3 aftermarket pipes.
I had my local welding shop do this. The outer pipes had a tiny wedge cut right after the front curve. Then were rewelded so the over all curve was brought up an inch or 2 depending on the pipe.

But my middle pipe was cut to have the angle raised and rotated a little.

All my cylinders have the same compression. But the outer pipes have a nice pressure pop to them at idle, and the center pipe doesn't. I am assuming I lost some design quality to the center pipe by modding it.

Any ideas how I could fix this problem when i tear it all down this winter?

I have tried jetting, packing and all that. I am pretty sure it is from my mod. Maybe a ridge from the weld on the inside?

Your center pipe feeling different at idle is not caused by small changes made to your expansion chambers. Clogged pilot circuit, or bad sync, etc., are more likely causes.

I have re synced them many times.

Clogged pilot circuit...hmm I will have to give that a try.. It does seem to make a difference when I turn the air screw though.

Good call Jim, I switched the center and right carbs around and the problem followed the carburetor.

A pilot jet can plug in a short amount of time with today's crap gas. Just be glad you don't have to run the stuff they sell in Ca. and have to pay .50
more a gallon than any other state :banghead
