I started out running PJ1 goldfire synthetic/petroleum blend http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/2/ ... remix.aspx
But I ride this bike so much I can't afford to keep running the expensive stuff. Also the engine is getting a complete rebuild this winter.

So can I safely just start putting regular cheaper oil in without draining the whole system?

This whole "not mixing" oils thing is confusing to me.

Since it is a blend instead of full synthetic there shouldn't be a problem.
Note: Goldfire isn't recommended for injector systems.

Most oils will mix, however, there are some fully synthetics that coagulate when mixed with dino oil.

A lot of oils don't say one way or the other about being recommended for injection systems. And I haven't really seen one that was super thick. I guess it has to do with how easily they mix with the fuel?

The old Kawasaki K-2 oil I used in the '70s was pretty thick compared to today's "injector oil". Seems to me it was about like 40 weight motor oil. The flow is so slow in our oil systems that I don't think oil viscosity is very critical. The Walmart TC-W3 rated oil I'm using now is thinned somewhat with mineral spirits according to the MSDS. That has the effect of lowering the amount of oil in the mix, compared to un-thinned oil, but it seems to lubricate just fine. You are probably right about mixing better when thinned a bit.

I had the same concern a while back so I poured some of each oil into a cup, mixed it up and checked it the next day. It was fine and yours probably will be as well.
Castor "bean" oil is the nasty stuff that doesn't like to mix with other oils and seperatesfrom fuel etc...etc.. but protects like liquid gold if you can deal with all the cons.

I'm liking the Maxima Super M for injectors; has synthetic base stocks and castor all in the same container.
Not quite the aroma of pure castor but does smell pretty righteous with Klotz octane booster.

mixed full synthetic, semi synthetic and mineral without troubles but usually mixed only full and half
