Hi

I really don´t have a problem, this is more of need for advice.

This is the story.

My H2 is stock except air filters. 105 mains and needles in mid position.

My H2 has been running with KN type conical air filters. Works fine at highway cruising but some surging at medium rpm and low throttle. Also some pinging at WOT and high rpm.

Late last year I put on foam filters. Works grate at highway speed, much less surging and no pinging. Might have lost some power at top.

Managed to buy a stock air box this winter. Did a test installation this spring and it had a huge impact on the bike. Runs like crap at highway speed and significant power loss at WOT and high rpm, the motor hardly reach full rpms. Minimal surging and no pinging. I´m now back on KN filters and my H2 runs like it did before with KN´s.

I´m fully avare that I need to change my carbs when changing to stock air box but I would like some advice in this matter. My plan is to lower the needle one notch for cruising improvement and go down to mains 100 to improve WOT.
Any comments on this?

Bjorn

you really have to go by how the bike runs, and plug chops for the main jet. Just try different setting on the needle to see what runs best. The motor will always tell you what it wants, you just have to listen.

What filter are you using in the stock airbox? Is it complete with snorkel? If so try it without.

According to a dyno chart I have, just the snorkle is worth a 5 HP loss.

I believe the best set up is foam filters with velocity stacks jetted correctly. Ivan's jet kit helps this a lot.

But after you have gone to the trouble and expense of the stock air box, you will probably want to run with it, so you will need to jet accordingly. But I would leave the snorkle off (if you have one).

What about a late H1? Is the snorkel a choker on them too? I had it off when I was running chambers but it honks pretty loud with the stock pipes and the snorkel off!

The KH snorkel was horrific. Barely get your pinky in the opening....

Hi

Thanks for all input. Now I have some stuff to do.

My plan is to have two different setups. One as original as possible with the stock air box and another "performance" setup with maybe foam filters and the chambers I still not have.

with the original air filter housing you can use a hole saw and cut three large holes in rear side of it to aid in air flow , if done right you carnt see them till side covers are removed ,I did this on mine in the 70s worked well . urs Al in Aus
