I have been fighting my back brake dragging for a week now. (Rear hydrolic setup off a yamaha XS) I replaced the piston in the caliper and am confident it has to be the master cylinder. It just gets tighter and tighter on its own. When I first put this thing together the master cylinder was pretty dirty inside, I cleaned it up the best I could, but i couldnt get it completely apart. But since I have been having problem I could see some dirt in the fluid. So the question is. Is it just from dirt in the fluid? Do they come apart all the way for rebuild? Or should I just pick up a used one on ebay (very common)? Thanks |

I would do a thorough rebuild on the MC if it was dirty. Also see that the lines aren't clogged. I've seen brake hoses swell internally and let pressure get to the caliper, but not let the fluid back out. |

The brake line is brand new. I found a rebuild kit on ebay. Last time I messed with it I couldn't get it apart, but after seeing the picture of the rebuild kit I think I see the trick. Looks like its getting a rebuild. Its down again ![]() |

Well now I find the MC is off of a different bike yet (not a Yamaha XS like the caliper). So now I get the challenge of playing guess that master cylinder. |

Was rusted inside caused brake to drag >> |

Hi Since you have a modified bike, is your MC adjusted correctly? Interesting read on another board i visit: http://forums.ducatipaso.org/viewtopic. ... elf#p17492 |

A dirty, even partialy plugged up return hole will make the pads drag a little and the friction makes it hotter and hotter untill it all pretty much wont turn at all. Remove and disassemble the master. Carefuly. Also, make sure that the caliper is centering itself and isn't stuck and not able to slide back and forth on its pins. Its all easy compared to what you've done so far. ![]() |

It either did not get drill out all the way at the factory or it was really bad stopped up. I could not force anything thru it so I used a hand drill. It felt like it had not been drilled all the way thru when I drill it out. Worked fine after that. |

I couldn't get the damn thing apart. It either doesn't come apart or is that corroded inside. I even had a couple other people look at it and they couldn't figure it out either. So I ordered a different one off ebay. At least this way I will know what it is off of to buy a rebuild kit for it. Plus this one is a stupid set up where i have a hose that goes to a seperate reservoir that their is no good place for. The one i ordered has the reservoir attached. Woohoo 100th post ![]() |
