Hi guys, can anyone point me to a supplier of the small spring which sits in the oil line and locates the tiny ball bearing against the valve. Can`t find one anywhere. Steve. |

That is a hard one, I have had mine sitting in 2-stroke oil for a LONG time. I may have some old lines laying around somewhere, give me a couple of days to find them!! |

Thanks Rod. You know what happened was; as you may remember I have had trouble with this bike (H1E) from the start mostly with carb settings and the like, and a couple of complications with the top end rebuilds, due to various errors on my part etc, but now having the topend all perfect and carbs sorted, (had to get a new carb body from Old Gold as my left pilot jet wouldn`t come out) and it was obviously the problem as now I can get a great idle and good low rev performance. However it would then miss after half a block of riding and come home with oily left spark plug. Finally figured the symptoms were as per too much oil when pump got on higher setting. I had been aware of need to get spring the right way around and had not checked it as I was sure I could not have made that mistake. Wrong, I had. So now reversed spring but it has been stretched at some point and although seems to still seat properly it is not perfect and I am reluctant to run it as I have learned the hard way that if anything is not perfect it will have consequences, rarely good ones. Anyway on reassembly the bike still will not rev. The symptoms now are as per petrol starvation or something. Can`t figure it and the only thing I know of not exactly as per spec is this spring. |

Test to be sure the valve seals, and that it starts to open at 4.5 psi. If it doesn't seal, the ball and/or seat need to be cleaned. If it opens sooner than 4.5 psi, the spring needs to be carefully stretched. I needed a spring recently, and used one from my box of random springs. The important things are having the spring be the right diameter, and that the valve opens at 4.5 psi. |

Thanks Jim but I have no idea how I could check for the 4.5 psi. |

There's a tool called a MityVac which is a vacuum or pressure pump (selectable) which can have a gauge fitted (vac or pressure). Fit one of them up and its straightforward. Unfortunately a tool that costs around $30 in the USA is well over $100 here ![]() I got one locally and its been a pretty handy thing bleeding brakes etc Though I now have to fork out for the (optional) gauges for vac and pressure testing. ![]() I've probably got 3 or 4 of the line you need if you dont have any luck shoot me a pm with an offer ![]() Your trouble could also be ignition related- some money spent with Jim or Starfire would be well invested. |

It is not too pretty but here is how I checked the cracking pressure http://www.kawi2strokes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2939 This thread shows how I did the set up. For the actual test I filled the line with oil by submerging the pump end of the line in a container of oil, then pumped it up with the vacuum pump until I had a full line. Then I just pumped to find the cracking pressure on each check valve. Good luck. You may notice that all my valves checked at 2.5 psi. I left them at that condition because they sealed tight and I read that other 2-strokes use 1 or 2 psi valves. I just did not want to take a good valve apart for fear of damaging them. The valves work fine on the engine - no leaks after running - even when sitting for days. So far, so good. |

No doubt the check valve/springs need to be right but I doubt that is your problem. http://3cyl.com/mraxl/TomsTips/oil_lines.htm Excessive plug oiling could be as simple as needing to clear the crankcase. Fouled plugs could occur from a variety of faults, from ignition/carb related to clogged pipes. |

I have found that the new Mity-Vacs are set up for vacuum only, they no longer have the pressure port like the older one I will have to borrow again from a friend (hint hint, you know who you are). I found some of the old style on eBay but they were sold by an "adult toys" store! ![]() ![]() |
