Post subject:  H2 throttle cables compatibility

Hello,

I'm about to install a set of Mikuni TM34 in my H2 (euro handlebar..) can I use the stock cable or I need to buy a specific one? If I need a "custom made cable" where I can find one?

Also, since the carbs are from a kit specific for the H2, are the carb spring already a bit softer or I need to replace them if I want a softer twist grip?

Thanks for any input
Daniele

I had 34s on my bike with stock U.S cable and they fit O.K. The springs ARE really stiff.

Hello, thanks a lot for the fast answer, I'm happy that I can probably use the stock cables :D because I have replaced them 100 miles ago.... I have some doubt about the stiff springs always hated the stiff throttle springs (From the times of the Aprilia Sport Pro 125...).
What did you do to solve this problem? Cut the springs? I have read on the other board that SUDCO had softer springs... But I can't get the Part number...

Use the springs out of the 28's or 30 stock carbs.....

I tought that the TM 34's (flat slides)had smaller springs (talking about coil diameter...) than VM series .....

If I can use the VM30 or 28 springs than i'm the happyest man on earth!!!!

PS. I will be even happyer if I can tune the bike properly befote I get old!!! :banghead

@ john: Ciao do ypu remember me? I sent you some mails two years ago asking for orted H2 cylinders.....

Here we are! Slowly slowly (way slower than the original plan...) I started working on my H2..

Big OOPS on my end, I need to quit speed reading! :eh: I was thinking VM's. So that won't work for you. The TM's are a bit harder to work with. They do have a lot of preload on the springs, so you just need to cut them shorter, bit by bit.

And I kinda do Meloni. I'm sure I have your E mail in my file. I literally have 1000's of E mails about doing work, so it's hard to keep up with them all over the years. Glad you are getting to the H2!

Just do it a little at a time, and you will be fine. Cutting springs actually makes them stiffer, but you also have to take in account the preload. So there is a balance of removing preload but not getting so short the throttle gets harder.

And of course I need to keep at least 10mm or even 15 of preload.... Otherwise the slides can get stuck open :o  :o :o

That's the main thing we are trying to avoid.......... :o
