Finally got this H1 on the road...It feels fine until after 5 minutes of riding. Then while cruising I feel it surge. And if I get on the throttle it feels like it take a second to over come something dragging. If I pull the clutch I can tell it isn't a wheel bearing or brake dragging. I am experienced with carb jetting, it isn't that. It really feels like a transmission bearing tightening up intermittently. But I don't hear any strange noises at all. Anyone got an idea of what this could be? this is very intermittent. Or could I be miss interpetting a bad clutch /broken clutch plate? It does slip if I get on the throttle hard. |

You mention surging and lagging throttle response, so why do you rule out a lean spot? |

I don't think it is jetting because I was working on the jetting all yesterday because it was very rich on the bottom. And it really feels like the motor is trying, but something is dragging. I am confident in the jetting, i got it just lean enough to stop fouling plugs, but maybe a crank seal going in and out of leaking? And it doesn't feel like the brakes or anythingthe not engine related when I pull the clutch. |

I'd raise the needles one notch (lower clip, of course), just as a test, and see if the problem changes. It sure sounds like a lean mixture. Put some tape on on your throttle twist grip and mark 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and then you can see where the problem is. |

But fouled plugs. I hope it isn't a crank seal leaking. ![]() |

A leaking crank seal wouldn't cause symptoms that come and go. |

I think i just figured it out. The back brake was dragging a little. I took it apart and cleaned it. But jetting....This thing, the outer carbs are H1 D/E set ups, and the center carb is a H1 C set up. Which run different needle jets and i had the one off sized needle in the wrong carb. I haven't tried it yet since putting the needles in the right carbs. But i bet this solves my problem. EDIT. well the H1 C takes a part number 3 throttle valve and i have all #2s |

The H1C carb runs in an vastly different environment than the later carbs (Different ignition timing, mufflers (back pressure) and intake filiter/tract). I suggest you change all the internal carb parts to match. Late model carbs are plentiful on evilbay. J |
