Problem of the day.
The bike starts up easy enough (now that the kickstarter issue is fixed) but now it feels very sluggish and the right exhaust pipe is not smoking like the others. The head pipe is also cold unless you rev the engine some and then it starts to warm up and the exhaust smoke is consistent. I've already pulled the carb and made sure the pilot is clear and the float bowl is adjusted correctly per the manual. I've got Jim's CDI unit but I can't vouch for the coils.
I changed the spark plug but it had no efffect.
What could be causing this?

Switch coils wires and coil input wires, and see if it follows. And it might be your carb sync.

Ok I'll give that a try. Would the coil malfunction by only firing at low RPMs?
I did sync the carbs and rechecked them this last time around.

I can't remember, Is this an H1? If so, you might check the brushes in the alternator, particularly the one that grounds the coil in question when it's time to fire.

The brushes look OK.

Well that's weird. I checked the spark plug gap on the right cylinder and it was about half of what it was supposed to be. I also pulled all five brushes from the alternators and they seemd fine. I buttoned it back up and voila, it started right up and settled into a consistent idle. I checked the right pipe and it warmed right up and was smoking like it should. I took it for a spin and aside from a feeling a little sluggish off the start it ran great. It only has 53 mile sonm oit since the rebuild so I am keeping it mellow but occaisonly we approach 6 grand and it just sings.
I've never ridden a H1 before this one so I am not sure what they are supposed to feel like off the bottom.

They don't have a lot of torque on the bottom. Can you make a vid?
