Hi

I was lucky and found an H2 air box in a local ad this spring. The air box was removed by this guy in 1977 and has been sitting since. Unfortuneatly the guy did know the proper value so I did pay some good money.
Filter and clamps are reproduction.

What is the purpose of that felt on filter upper cover? It should be oiled according to Glenns manual.

I had also a hard time when installing the air box today. The only way to get it in place was to take it bit by bit and then assemble together "inside" the frame. Is there any smart way to install a air box?
Carbs were in place, gas tank removed.

I wouldn't oil the felt, it is to trap big stuff like bugs. And they are a pain to work with, that's the reason most got taken off.......

They are supposed to sound cool as hell. I have part of it and need a few more bits to make it work. I'm gonna do the stock thing while I work on my bad guy top end.

If you take the removable side cover tab off (lh front) it will go in alot easier.

Actually, I did this also. Still a bit tricky.

An other question:
The bike is stock as far as I know. Before the installation of the new air box I run mains 105 and foam filters and the bike starts pinging a few celsius above freezing. At normal temperatures no pinging.

I still have the mains 105 and now the H2 had lost significant power at full throttle and high rpm, suprise???
The question is that I donĀ“t own any mains below 105 and need to buy some.
How many do you think I should buy? 95, 97,5, 100 and 102,5?

Any input appreciated.

Bjorn

my two H2, H2A and H2B, standart engine, exhausts, air filter run 105.
When I could find leaded fuel (early 2000s) my H2B ran 102.5 but with unleaded fuel, needs to go 105.
Don't know for my 71 H2 as the bike is still in bits even if in a few weeks, it wil be back on the road
