Finally got my H2 back on the road and am logging some miles. One thing I have noticed is the response from the tach is awful. Seems to do OK between idle and maybe about 3500, but beyond that it is as though the needle is crawling through molasses. Cable is a new unit from reproductiondecals. I don't think I have seen the needle creep above about 4500-5000, and lord knows I have twisted that motor plenty faster than that. Is there any servicing to be done on my tach? Source a different one?

Yes, take it apart and you will find some stickey residue on the surface of one of the parts inside. Someone who works on these things may know the name and be able to give you more info. But it can be fixed. I had one do the same thing and all I did at the time was to wipe the residue off and it is working to date.

I'm working on this one - try and get some "mouse-milk" or similar inside the steel bowl to lighten up the original grease, and check out the basic action - some are smooth(ish) and some have metal to metal interference, and won't work....!

Any tips on how to separate the case from the face? Looks like a stamping and even with a tiny flat screwdriver I am not having any luck getting enough purchase to pry up the lip.

Two screwdrivers at the same time? Brilliant!

Got it open. Pig of a job. Thanks for the link. Seems like everything is on the resource site if you just know where to look.
