What am I missing? The hole in the top case goes through to the transmission.

That looks like where the clutch cable housing sits, with the cable extending into the area where the front sprocket is.

Yeah, I have my hydraulic hose run under the engine and up to the slave cylinder too. When you asked about the hole I had to go look at my H2 to remember what's going on there.

They often get plugged and the top of the case has so much crud you can't even tell there are holes under there.

Thank you for confirming. I searched for access on the underside couldn't find them. They are plugged tight, likely from vegetation, outdoor storage. I was going to use a steel wire to poke them out.
Cases being split any day now, so no need now.
