Ahh, the old discussion! I can set up a H2 properly, but I would run 2 hydraulic dampers if I could........!!. (And when I go FAST on the ZX10r, damper on full, and that thing handles a lot better than any triple!!!) :wtf:

Getting my 72 frame ready for the powder coaters. The stock damper bracket was repaired and didn't look safe so I made my own out of 1/4" bar.
This one should hold up for a while.

Simply re welding the original bracket/welding the corners is not the permanent fix.

The original Kaw cantilever design will continue to flex and fail again in time, probably at the edge of the repair weld (like sawracer's repaired/welded bracket did).

To fix it properly an additional stay rod needs to be added to triangulate the damper mount. This is what Kaw did with the additional bracket installed on the H1B. As such there is essentially no flexing/fatigue occurring during normal operation.

Can you explain a bit more, if you will, maybe pictures...??
Mine is cracked, so needs to be welded and/or reinforced as well...

The best fix I could come up with is just to remove the original and then use bar stock. I got into the habit of doing this
before I send the frame to the powder coaters or painters.

Looks fine, but I need it to be fixed as it is right now, not going to powdercoat the frame or anything, as all looks good now.
Just some sort of weld, and a local respray is my goal.

I simply "box in" the stock bracket, by adding filler plates to the top and bottom of the mount welded to the mount and frame. Never had a problem after that. I, too, have run two dampers on one frame, just have to fabricate the mounts, install the damper.

Good to know of pattern failures.
Thanks for this.
I'll fab a little 12ga. triangular gusset, weld it in place when the opportunity presents itself.
