I have drilled through the kicker boss into the shaft, through the shaft and out the other side of the boss and inserted a suitable sized roll pin on numerous occasions in the past. Simple, easy and works well. These motors aren't all that hard to kick over.

Tack weld it on to the shaft. Really dont matter if both the kickstarter and shaft have screwed up splines eh? You can always cut the weld out when you go in for the shaft. I welded a dirt bike kick starter on, just a couple tacks, and didn't remove it till 2 years later to fix it right.

If you do weld.. Just make certain you ground to the kicker or boss. or you'll cook every bearing in the engine.. ;)

Those are all great fixes!Drilled through the kicker and shaft and inserted a 1/8 roll pin.If that shears I'll go next size up.So far so good.
