My 72 H2 has a new mounting gasket and all new stat-o- seals, but I'm still finding oil leaking from the pump area. The engine lines remain air tight, but the line running from the oil tank has bubbles. It looks like the oil pump base is leaking. Does that oil seal fail and is it replaceable? What else should I look for ? :wtf:

Assuming it's 2-stroke oil, the banjo bolt on the incoming line to the pump can leak at the Stat-O-Seal that's against the pump, because that banjo fitting is made so it doesn't contact the rubber part of the seal. You can put a little sealer on that Stat-O-Seal, or make a little gasket if that's where the oil is coming from.

If there are bubbles in the line from the tank to the pump, it sounds like your tank screen is plugged up and the pump is sucking air where the line connects to the tank barb, or your tank barb is cracked and letting air in. Check the screen in the screw-on tank barb fitting, and look for cracks.

I appreciate that. It does look like it might be leaking from the banjo there. I had assumed that the stat-o-seals were foolproof on their own. The air in the line was (is) from in between the pump incoming banjo and a shut off valve I've installed upstream. So it's all that SAME leak.

Hope you have a perfect memory....... :wtf: And the stat o seals are like anything else. you have to have the correct size. The one side of the banjo is bigger for oil flow, so there isn't a stat o seal that is correct for it. So it needs a gasket.

Just to clarify, it's only the pump side of the incoming oil banjo fitting that has the problem of the rubber of the Stat-O-Seal not sealing.

I know enough about myself to know that I cannot put a shutoff valve on the oil line. Well, not and keep a running engine, anyway.

I had such oiling and oil pump and line issues that I installed the shut off to help in fiddling with it all. I WONT turn it to OFF now that it's O.K. I found a suitable fiber gasket for the oil pump side of the inlet banjo. (honda 8hp carburetor kit) :P I hope my dripping days are behind me.

A few months ago, before I discovered Stat-o- Seals, I purchased ALUMINUM crush washers for my oil lines. I've used one of these on the inlet line banjo at the pump side fitting and it looks to fit perfectly.I never REALLY noticed that that banjo had two different sized holes. I stuck a paper towel in the area below the fitting yesterday and this morning it was still dry. If I get a chance this weekend I'll start the bike and re-bleed the system, but it seems to no longer leak. Thanks again.

Several days later and still dry. The air bubbles have floated up and back into the tank. Looks like all is well. Now if I could just locate my transmission leak.......... :wtf:
