Wich is better? Got my crank out and ready for rebuild. Just wanted some opinions on what seals everyone though was best.

I have aluminum labyrinth seals waiting for my crank's upcoming rebuild. I believe that rubber seals do a little better at sealing, but I don't want to be concerned that whatever junk that might get mandated into gasoline could wreck an otherwise perfect crankshaft. The key is getting good lab seals. Don't ask me where to get good ones... the guy who made mine is no longer with us.

Thanks, I wonder if stable or carb cleaners would ruin rubber seals as well.

I prefer original and I know some Yamaha TZ racers who modified the crankseals to have no more labyrinth seals.

The lab seals must be perfectly machined, so make sure the source has a good reputation and will stand behind the product.
Rubber seals seal BETTER... No way one could argue against a positive sealing lip pressing against the crank.
In my opinion, the biggest downside of the rubber seals is "how long will they last"? Especially with the glop they sell as gasoline these days? I think that gas is more crappy today than even a couple of years ago so the verdict is still out on "how long" the rubber will hold up?

That said, I have both lab and rubber in my bikes. The rubber sealed H1 starts in ONE KICK, hot/cold/whatever and runs superb.
The H2 has lab seals and takes about 4 or 5 "priming kicks" to build crank pressure and then fires on one kick the rest of the day.. It too runs superb.

It all comes down to opinion, and what you want. I'd use rubber seals in a race bike, or if looking for every ounce of performance. I'd use lab seals on a street rider where they are bound to last MUCH longer (FOREVER) as long as something else doesn't take them out....

I dont think I'd worry about stabil, but carb cleaners could definately cause problems... Especially if you used something as aggressive as hydroseal or berrymans. Stick a rubber seal in these and come back to a pile of "gum" in a few days.

Good to know, since that's the kind I have waiting for the rebuild.
