Started my 74 h1 the other day for the first time and all was well. As i was adjusting the throttle cable the engine revs when very high and i could not shut off the engine with the kill switch or the key. Shut off the fuel and the engine stopped. After trying to start again, all is well and it never did this again. Any ideas?

It was dieseling... no ignition required.
Probably loose carb, loose/missing/misplaced carb cap gasket. But not limited to those items.

Yes it sounds like lean runaway..the bike runs so lean that something in the combustion chamber ignites the fuel other than the spark plug. Find the source of the air leak before you start it again because the engine won't last long running like that...and God forbid you're on the highway when it happens!
