All carb parts (jets & needles etc) are Mikuni from Reproduction Decals and also NOS needle jets. I have two sets of coils, the original factory set and a new set from HVC Cycle. Have tried all options and positions fitted with new leads and caps and new wiring from the coils to the harness connections which are also fine and have been checked with a meter.

I just went through their site to check, and they do not have Mikuni needles. All I see are the "kits" which are junk, as all of them are. So I am confused. Can you give us the number on the needle you have in the carbs, and I hope you still have the old ones. As I saidm any guys have been caught out with these kits.

Syd's first post specified this:

NOS Mikuni Needle jets part number 172
NOS Mikuni Needle jets 5DJ19-4 clip (Also tried 3 clip but no difference)
Prepro Decals 100 Main jet (Also tried 95's but no difference)
Mikuni pilot 30.
Cutaway 2.0
Air screws set at 1 1/2 turns (have tried over range of 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns)
Float levels 25mm ( Have also tried set to 24mm & 24.5mm)
Plugs NKG B8HS set at 0.024"
Points set 23 deg BTDC (2.94mm)
Kaw air cleaner has additional air intakes for engine no's KAE-61607 up

Based on the above I have been putting ALLOT of input towards his issue. I truly hope these are indeed the part numbers installed in his carbs. :banghead

I hope we can get this cleared up. With all the posts on so many boards, it's is hard to keep up with them all, and what's what. He could indeed have found NOS stuff, but the "got them from RD" has got me confused, as those parts have been NA for many, many years........

"NO" kits have been used - just original parts as stated earlier. Mikuni pilots and mains from Repro and ebay and all other NOS Mikuni parts (needle jets etc) from the 72 H1B via ebay...

Great. We are not trying to pick on you, and really want to help. Just over the years, we have had to deal with problems that finally turned out later to be because of a kit, jacked up wiring, fouled plugs and the sort. So we are just crossing the "t"s, and dotting the "I"s. And we just have to take it system by system.......

Check valve Spring - Can you advise if the ball and spring can only be fitted one way? Should the spring have a slight restriction at one end to stop the ball ever moving through and into the centre of the spring?

The spring has one end smaller than the other and the small end must mate with the ball.
