Don't modify your friction plates!!! Those appear to be Vesrah plates and had have a good rep..

Be sure you have the correct washer fitted between the basket and the bearing and between the hub and the basket

I've been running the SK401 springs on a late H1 clutch for several years with good results.

yeah i grinded the ears down about 2 mm all around (on the ends, did nothing to the sides because the plates are moving freely in the hub, it was just so little clearnce that they seemed to be too tight when i was installing them.)

CLUTCH IS NOW WORKING PROPERLY!

it was the springs all along, you dont happen to have one of those nifty sy-tech releases Loony cylinders?

I only have the sytec installed in my bike. I'm also running a ball bearing pusher. To get the sytec to work with the BB pusher I had to add a headstock ball bearing inside the sytec (to get the adjuster screw out where the check nut will lock it).

sounds like a nice setup, kinda dawned on me when i was watching the weak stock release struggle with moving the spring plate as much as a mm that you might be running something like that.

That's strange, as my bike presently has a '69 bottom end (late clutch though) and the sytec has worked well for 2 1/2 seasons :?

Sverre,
If you're being forced to use a nylon release be sure that is at least the later 6 spline metal core release. The early all nylon 4 spline will break for sure. The best and latest kaw release (feels close to the Sytec) has ball bearings but must be modded or have a spacer installed to be used in an early H1.

Mark Hasse came up with a cool "fix" for the sy-techs. they are a finer thread, which reduces the pull. But the lever arm doesn't not move many degrees. He just moved the cable pivot inward by 10mm, and has the best of both worlds. Light pull and enough movement of the arm..... :P

When I did a 15 plate conversion and used my heavy duty springs the clutch would not dis engage due to the diameter of the wire used to make the spring. When you pull in the clutch the springs would bind against themselves. Put stock springs in and everything works fine.

15 plate clutch? Unless you are Leo (who has thinned the steels to install extra plates in an H1) you are probably referring to a H2. :?

The Vesrah plates and KZ1000 (SK401) springs work well in a standard H1 clutch.
