Well the third time was NOT a charm. I let them setup overnight and checked real quick this morning before leaving for work and at least the center cylinder is leaking worse than ever. As I said I know my intake boots are junk. My jug surfaces are fine. Is there anybody out there selling good quality aftermarket ones for a descent price? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

So, I guess for my next attempt I gonna try again using ALOT of the blue gasket maker I was going to try before. These boots have some pretty good gouges on thier mating surfaces from being scraped off so many times throughout thier lives.

If that doesn't work i'm not sure what my next move will be.

that sucks..

the metal base plate molded inside of the rubber manifold is probably bent and distorted.

I do not know of a company that makes "aftermarket" intake rubbers. I could be wrong, but as far as I know, they are all made by Mikuni. So at that point, you might as well just get the correct/original ones as all of the dimensions, tapers, etc are closer to being "on".

The original part number is 16060-013.

I would still run with one paper gasket and no heat insulators.

Thanks, Scrambler. I'll google up that p/n and see what comes back.

$112 for 3 from Z1 (if they actually have them). I'll order at lunch time.

If everything's right, I can't imagine you need 15 lb-ft to get a good seal. In fact, I'd expect that to bend the metal core inside the rubber flange.

That still sounds rather high, 4 or 5 maybe. I never have torqued them, tight with a box end wrench is enough. No grunting.

Never had trouble with mine, and one of the things I'm not ham-fisted with. Things I'm not sure about or just inner sense, use box wrench and snug it. You can always make it tighter if necessary. Clutch basket excluded - I seem to snap them all the time.

I use Allen head bolts, and an L shaped Allen wrench, and just snug them.
