As I'm rebuilding my forks completely and re-springing them too I was curious if anyone has any figures regarding static sag. As rule of thumb the modern bikes have anything from 27>mm so was wondering if anybody has any advice on this subject. :?:

The spring rate seemed very soft indeed less than 6.5Kg approx (.65 approx in the USA)

20 to 25% total travel. 20 for hard riding.

Jolly good plan, but I'll machine some up out of aluminium in the lathe that are shouldered and will locate in the spring. I'll see what sag I have using the cable tidy around the fork leg method and machine them up to suit.

Aluminum has a tendency to "flake" particles off when in contact with harder metals, such as the spring end, as you now plan, especially if the aluminum is "indexed" into the spring. I suggest that the aluminum tube is left flat cut on its ends, and a stainless steel or hardened steel flat washer is used against the tube end and the spring and fork cap. You sure don't really want any of those aluminum wear off particles to migrate down into the dampers.

Good point thanx for the heads-up, possibly it'd be best to use nylon then as Ja-Moo suggested.
