I have a rough (small points of rust, but plenty of 'smudge') early H2 muffler. It has a loose baffle support inside. I think I have heard of some 'riders' that have had the 'bottom surgery' done, and brased/welded back up to drive? Does anyone do this really, or should I just dump pipe and move on? thx.

Old pipes are like luggage - you keep them forever

I had what sounds like the part you describe loose on an H1e I had just bought. It was not visible when looking up pipe with torch, would only rattle, when pipe removed, sometimes and only block flow of exhaust sometimes. Was a major hassle to diagnose and when I cut a small section out (on the in/under side out of sight) and had it welded it worked great. For about a week. Then the other two came loose and I had to repeat the process. It`s fixed now but repair is highly visible and to grind evidence and rechrome would be more expensive than finding a new one, in hindsight.

Depends on what the term "Dump" means. Don't throw them away ! At least give or sell them to someone who'll use them or just simply keep them until such time someone does need them. These bikes are now 40 years old you know.

Murphy's Law! Ric, I am sorry your post came 5 days after mine. After posting on 2 sites, with no one replying "keep....it can be done...", I put it out in the trash pickup. (I did notice the muffler got picked up by the under-employed, drive-by metals collector). I did take one last look in pipe, and could see not one, but Two of the baffle supports were completely loose. thx. for trying
