FWIW, Many here like to use Belray "Gear Saver" transmission oil. (80w or 85W) It seems to keep the clutch happy. ;)

where can i get bel ray. this is all great info for me, I also bought a 77 kh 400 that is super nice shape. this is my first dive into triples. it is a bit of a change as most of my bikes are 70's little harley two stroke singles, besides my driver last year a 1983 sc550 nighthawk i picked up.

I'm old and can't see oil on the stick so I black sharpie the end - makes it easier to see the level - BUT - l like I said I use an exact ratio cup to measure too - 1.5qts for H2.

^^^H1s are less capacity than H2s.

Rub the oil stick sideways down the palm of your hand and note the position of the smear (relative to the stick)! ;)

Call around to the bike dealers for Belray products.

Yep, that's why I qualified H2. don't have H1 capacity handy.

I use a paper towel to wipe the dipstick then when I pull it out I lay it on a clean part of the towel, you can easily see (especially with the red stuff!) the edge of the wet is your level line.

hey guys i was able to fill the oil level to exactly 1.3 quarts. I also ordered a s2 kick stand so my bike won't lean so far, I think this will help it is 1 1/2 " longer.
