The O ring used in this application isn't what you would think an O ring should be. Its radial diameter is smaller in thickness than a regular O ring, and should easily compress into the area created by the chamfer in both the bearing race and collar.

I see a lot of people use a regular thickness O ring, and, they pretty much get fully destroyed in the installation. The correct narrow thickness O ring should be good to go.
