Sorry to post something that may be very annoying to some folk, but recently I have bought an H1A (Points) and everything I touch seems to be bad. As a brief history I owned and raced these things back in the 70's and I bought another for old times sake. The bike itself is quite tidy but whoever built it spent money on bling and not the important stuff.

The upshot is that the oil pump is pumping air to part number 1 cylinder. I have bled the pump through and it seemed fine off the bike and I also watched that really good You Tube film with that bloke who is servicing them. The problem is that I don't have a set up to pressurize the check valves as is recommended but do understand that it may not be the oil pump and it may also have something to do with the check valves.

I have taken the check valves apart and checked the free length of spring and set it to the length as was recommended in the YouTube clip. Cleaned them all and rebuilt them carefully.

Is it possible for the pump to give up on part number 1 only?

I have replaced all the aluminium washers too so I know there is no air leaks.

Any help and advice appreciated.

Thanks Dale - what's going on with air in lines lately - some higher force at work?
Seems we could go years without anything on the subject then - wham! tons of threads.

Today's task.......................

Strip the check valve, check it out far more closely this time with my large magnifying glass and locate another L or part number 1 oil line??

FWIW B4 I get pilloried as a lazy newbie about starting another thread about oil supply issues, I must admit that I have indeed conducted a search and have found most if not all the other threads on this subject which I have found most enlightening................Nice input boys :thumbup: !!


Addendum.

Am back in business!!

I stripped the Check Valve again this morning and rebuilt it with EXTRA care, possibly it was because the narrow end of the spring had decided to migrate inside the wider part under compression and the bearing was backing off!

Either way I have done the best job I can to get the spring looking as it should, but working with something so fine is difficult, the upshot is that its working OK now, there's no air but must keep my eye on it.

I had the same problem on my H1A
I had my pump helicoiled but one of the coils had'nt been put in straight so when i screwed in the oil line it was'nt seated properly and drew in air
Just a thought

I have sorted it now!!

I think that the ball bearing was disappearing up inside the spring, so I have re-shaped the spring to look as it should as you can see in the pic, its not easy to do as the springs are so small and delicate, either way it looks like it should now and works fine too.
