I had some troubles with my S2 breaking down towards the end of last season, so I am in the process of replacing all the points and condensors.....There was a little bit of oil pooled up at the bottom in there....is that a sign of a leaky seal or what? If it was the crank seal on that side, wouldnt it just suck air and run crazy? Where would gear case oil be coming from to get into the ignition chamber? Oh yeah, can you replace that crank seal without splitting the cases? Thanks in advance for any input! |

I should let Moo do this - but he has a great how-to video on doing it on a 500. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfqhY2RF2c4&feature=plcp&context=C3cabb83UDOEgsToPDskLUnzOof396lLgSMCPFDoHc |

A bad seal can suck in air, and seize the cylinder. A kinda bad seal just loses oil "usually". that is 2 stroke oil, not tranny oil. |

There's one other thing that could do it, and that's if the left carb is leaking, and the bike is on the sidestand, gasoline can find its way through the cracks into the points area. At least I had it do that and get into my H2's alternator. I was ready to change my left seal, but fixed the float valve in the L carb first, and the problem went away. If this happens and you're running premix, oil could collect in there. I expect you'll find the seal is leaking in your case, just covering the bases. |

I don't think it's gas, as I have know guys with points, that the cover blew off from an explosion......... |

EXCELLENT! Thanks guys! Easily done. I think that may have been related to my ignition problems... not good to have oil in there! I do run premix, but I am a bit heavy on it, so I could see some seeping in ....anyway its not that big a deal so while shes down, I'll put a seal in it! |

That's how I found the oil in my side cover. ![]() |
