Can anyone help me identify this part(s). There are 3 small external lugs under the forward lower engine casing, about level with the exhausts, which are roughly oval shaped and extend about an inch out from the case. Each one has an outer cap retained by 2 larger and 2 smaller phillips head screws and a gasket. The lug has another gasket where it attaches to the case.
I can find no reference to them in any manual or literature. Maybe they are a bleeder for the crank housing or something like that, I want to remove and replace the gaskets but need to know more first. Any suggestions from the `bored`?

I would leave them alone, you can't get gaskets and there is a tiny plastic reed in there too. Totally for EPA reasons, just sucked the oil in the crankcase into the transfer ports.

As John says, leave them alone - they RARELY work and even when they are failed they are just redundant - Pretend that you didn't see them

Ok I will leave them unmolested, but I didn`t understand what they do. Could you explain again please? I feel threatened by things I don`t fully understand-like my wife.

Kaw called them check valves. They're purpose was to reduce emissions.
If you decide to take them off, just block them off with solid gasket material.

They are just little reed valves, that drain the oil in the crankcase up the transfers on the crankcase compression stroke Just a useless EPA thing.
