Are you sure it's the center pipe? ("area of the center pipe") It could be the beginning of a crank seal sucking gear oil. (On the right pipe) While it's running, does it smoke equaly on all three? I'm asking because it sounds eerily familiar to a problem that I had. It's easily and cheaply repaired. :)

Okay sounds good! I have rebuilt the engine (crank anyway), so the engine has been torn down. I have done a lot of 'tuning at idle' so that would make sense that it is getting loaded up.
